Polar Bear

Polar bears do not hunt on land in any meaningful way. They hunt seals at breathing holes in sea ice. When the ice forms later and breaks up earlier, the hunting season shortens — and the consequence is measured in body condition and cub survival long before it is measured in population counts.

The fur is not white. Each hair is a hollow, translucent tube scattering light, over skin that is black. Under infrared they nearly disappear.
