The most successful wild carnivore on the planet.
Red foxes appear to use the earth's magnetic field when pouncing on prey hidden under snow, favouring a north-easterly strike angle with a markedly higher success rate. It remains one of the stranger findings in mammal sensory biology.
Their urban populations are not degraded versions of rural ones. They are behaviourally distinct — bolder, more nocturnal, with smaller territories and a diet reorganised around us.
